Episode 1 The Omitted Interview Effect
Selective Editing: A Tactic You Should Know About
This video explores a very common tactic that can be used for good or for bad, but is most often used to persuade people to arrive at a predetermined opinion about a group or a subject.
Whenever you hear someone say President Obama, Sarah Palin, or Occupy supporters are uninformed or unintelligent, they are most likely basing that opinion on interview-style videos. These videos are very unreliable because it is extremely difficult to determine whether this tactic was used in their production. Therefore, almost all of these types of videos should be viewed with skepticism, regardless of the source.
